Three days of (Searching for) Radical Care in Frascati

Hoever ga je om je verbonden te voelen in een relatie? In The Elephant onderzoekt Toni Blackwell de spanning, schuring en doorwerking van trauma binnen de relatie van een jong queer koppel. The Elephant gaat zaterdag 2 mei in première.

In The Elephant volg je Selena (Priscilla Pancras) en Luna (Lisa Carreno) gedurende één nacht, waarin aantrekking en afstoting elkaar voortdurend afwisselen. In een scherp en rauwe duet onderzoekt Blackwell - met humor, verdriet en een vleugje vampirisme - de complexiteit van de relatie. Hoe verbind je je aan een ander wanneer je beiden onverwerkt trauma met je meedraagt? Hoe geef je vorm aan een queer relatie als je hier weinig voorbeelden in hebt gehad? The Elephant is een verhaal over monsters onder het bed en buiten de slaapkamer, ingebeeld of levensecht. Over de horror van liefde, intimiteit, geweld en alles wat onuitgesproken blijft. 

The Elephant is van 30 april t/m 9 mei te zien in Frascati 4. Het is Toni's tweede voorstelling bij Frascati Producties. In 2024 maakte ze Voor junkies die de wereld gaan redden, een rauw en fantasierijk portret van een groep idealistische vrienden die zich verliezen in de nacht.

(Searching for) Radical Care is a multi-day program by Frascati and Theater Utrecht, in which care is not the exception, but the point of departure. In a world that is growing increasingly harsh, both houses create space for doubt, encounter, imagination, and for the question of how things might be different.

During the program, artists present work in various stages of development. Across a range of formats, space is created for reflection and dialogue. What is the role of the actress in the representation of women? How can food create a sense of home? And can someone truly change, even after an irreversible act?

With contributions by, among others, Carolina Bianchi, Casper Vandeputte, Floor Houwink ten Cate, Jaha Koo, Naomi Velissariou, and Cherish Menzo. Many of these artists previously developed work at Frascati Producties and are now returning.

From Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 April at Frascati.

Haribo Kimchi
On Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 April at 21:00, the internationally acclaimed performance Haribo Kimchi by Jaha Koo will be presented. For this work, Jaha received the International Ibsen Award, one of the most prestigious theatre awards in the world.

Woyzeck: research presentation
On Tuesday 14 April at 19:00, Casper Vandeputte presents an intensive research project on empathy and imagination, in collaboration with the Van der Hoeven Clinic. Tickets €10.00.

Residency: slow and steady wins the race – research II: DEATH
Merel Severs and Milou van Duijnhoven present a new chapter in their performative research into softness in an increasingly hardening world on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 April at 18:00.

Artist Talk: TO BE A WOMAN IS TO BE AN ACTRESS
On Thursday 16 April at 19:15, Naomi Velissariou, Romana Vrede, Jacqueline Blom, Noël van Kleef, and Hannah van Vliet, moderated by Carolien Borgers, will discuss femininity and representation. Tickets €5.00.
