During this artist talk, Carolina Bianchi and Naomi Velissariou engage in a conversation about their work. Both question the position of women in their performances, each in their own distinct way.

An important source of inspiration for both is the work of British playwright Sarah Kane, known for her explicit and sometimes almost violent writing style. She died by suicide at the age of 28. How does her legacy influence their thinking and artistic practice today?

In this artist talk, Carolina and Naomi will delve into how they work with their sources and how these are reflected in their creative processes.

About Carolina Bianchi

Carolina Bianchi is a Brazilian theatre maker, performer, and writer, based in Amsterdam, who graduated from the DAS Theatre Master in 2022. Since 2023, she has been affiliated with Frascati Producties. Her work moves between theatre and performance, with theory and practice inextricably intertwined. Her performances depart from a perspective of crisis and address themes such as gender, sexual violence, and art history—sometimes based on personal and/or historical events.

Cadela Força - Capítulo 1: A noiva e o boa noite cinderela / Chapter 1: The Bride and The Good Night, Cinderella premiered at the Avignon Festival in 2023, followed by its Dutch premiere at Frascati. In September 2024, during her residency at Frascati, Carolina worked on the second part: Cadela Força - Capítulo II: The Brotherhood. Under the wing of Theater Utrecht, she further developed The Brotherhood, which premiered in May 2025 at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels and was later presented at Holland Festival at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam. In the summer of 2025, Carolina will receive the Silver Lion for Dance at the Venice Biennale.

About Naomi Velissariou

Naomi Velissariou, of Flemish-Greek descent, holds a master’s degree in theatre, film, and literary studies from the University of Antwerp and graduated from the acting program at the Toneelacademie Maastricht in 2012. At Frascati Producties, she created the solo Mr Jones (2012, text by Rik van den Bos), in which she constructed an image of love through dramaturgical structures.

She draws on philosophical, scientific, popular, and personal ideas as the foundation for performances with a rich visual language. Her central theme is contemporary fluid identity and the ways in which it is consciously shaped and deployed through image and media.
