Step into the world of FRANK, the physical, dark, and immersive dance performance by choreographer and performer Cherish Menzo. In this installation, you are immersed in a continuous, cinematic translation of the performance. You follow the camera as it guides your gaze, moving through a universe where bodies distort, movements falter, and everything feels slightly off.

FRANK is inspired by the figure of the monster—not as something clearly defined or recognizable, but as a disruption: something that deviates, unsettles, and disturbs our ideas of the body, identity, and normality. Cherish explores how Black bodies have historically been distorted through projections of fear, exoticization, and “monstrosity,” and how these images continue to shape what we see and feel. Here, the monster does not appear as an enemy bent on destruction, but as a disturbance that undermines fixed identities and opens up space for transformation.

With four performers from different generations—Omagbitse Omagbemi, Mulunesh, and Malick Cissé—a ritualistic and at times apocalyptic world emerges, in which bodies deform, movements falter, and structures slowly collapse. Dance becomes fragmented, unpredictable, and raw, as if everything is slightly off. The performers embody their place in the world through disjointed, broken movements, while the set crumbles around them.

Through a specially developed website, you can delve deeper, with a visual glimpse into FRANK and an essay exploring the different layers of the work. Scroll through, let yourself be surprised, and explore the depths of the monstrous.
