Not all is lost is a performance about bodies caring for other bodies. About the power of our mutual interdependence. About our fragile need for the other. What does it mean to care? What does it mean to be carried?

In Not all is lost, Davy Pieters zooms in on the young adult stage of life. A period at the centre of life, between birth and death, in which caring becomes increasingly personal in its meaning. Our bodies and surroundings are fed and shaped by the amount of care we spend on them. But the great importance of care only becomes apparent the moment it's lacking. Where care is denied, things decay. They go to waste.

Not all is lost is an ode to the bodies that carry the weight of others. Those who are prepared to stand by someone, and to keep standing. Who come back, and keep on coming back.  Who offer their bodies to help out another body. Who receive, touch, hold and lift up. Who embrace the uncomfortable. Who hold on and won't let go.

In Not all is lost, Davy Pieters links the element earth to the young adult stage of life. In doing so, she creates room for growth, but also for decay, death and silence. The performers share the floor with a living, earthly landscape. In this evocative physical performance, body and landscape together tell a panoramic story about care and neglect.

In her four-part series on growing up in a future world, Davy Pieters links her powerful imagery to different stages of life and to the four natural elements: water, earth, fire and air. She uses the elements of the theatre as a microscope. From performance and scenography to soundscape. And in doing so, she zooms in on fear, hope and resilience in future times.

COME EARLY & GET IN TOUCH

How does it feel to dig into the past? How do you care for something or someone? What does it mean to be carried by someone else? These questions aren’t only posed in Davy Pieters’ performance, but the audience can also (literally) come into contact with these themes beforehand.

The interactive installation, Get in Touch, invites the audience to create together, or even better: with a stranger. Take a seat at this table, get in touch with dirt, play with different feelings and senses and compose a soundtrack!

Get In Touch is offered as a contextual program prior to the performance Not all is lost and is available in Dutch & English. Participation takes about 10 minutes, is free of charge and is possible from one hour before the start and half an hour after the performance in Frascati.
