About the makers
Israel Galván (Seville, 1973) is an innovative flamenco dancer who breaks open the tradition from within. Raised in a flamenco family, he developed a radically unique style, characterised by experimentation, silence and edgy rhythm. Since his breakthrough in the late 1990s, he has redefined flamenco as a contemporary, physical art form and has collaborated with artists from various disciplines. His work has received international acclaim, including a Bessie Award, and Israel himself was awarded the title of Officer in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Marlene Monteiro Freitas (Cape Verde, 1979) is a choreographer and performer, known for her intense and unpredictable style. She studied at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels and works at the intersection of dance and theatre. Her work is characterised by extreme physicality, humour and precision and is performed internationally. Marlene has received, among other awards, the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale and the Chanel Next Prize.
