In all the usual stagings of Woyzeck, we spend two hours watching a sweating man who kills his partner instead of his oppressors, and at the end is mourned for the tragic figure he is. But, not this time. 

In Woyzeck: Germany’s sharpest knife, Woyzeck performer Anna K. Seidel interweaves several narrative layers in a wild, forceful performative ride. Interacting with herself and the audience, she opens up a world in which she charmingly shows the parallels between Woyzeck and Milo S., an employee of Tönnies (Europe's largest producer of meat) who killed his colleague in the company's slaughter station in 2021.

And so Seidel unmasks the inhumane systems, at the end of which it is primarily the socially weak, the stigmatised (and often female socialised) who are the victims of the violence of capitalist structures.She asks us: "Why doesn't Woyzeck take revenge on all those who keep this system in place? And why don't we follow him?"

Over Lorenz Nolting

Lorenz Nolting (1992, Berlijn) volgde de acteursopleiding aan de Folkwang Universität der Künste in Bochum en studeerde vervolgens regie aan de Theaterakademie Hamburg. Samen met zijn team maakt hij tragische, multimediale totaalbewerkingen van bestaand repertoire, waarin bekende verhalen en hedendaagse thematiek via zelfgeschreven teksten met elkaar versneden worden. Lorenz is medeoprichter van het Junges Ensemble-Netzwerk en werd met zijn afstudeervoorstelling Biathlon der Sehnsucht uitgenodigd voor de Körber Studio Junge Regie 2021. Lorenz woont en werkt in Hamburg.
