This piece investigates the notion of dance techniques in relation to militarization as a deliberate strategy of control. Having both been part of dance trainings in occupied Palestine, Marah Haj Hussein and Nur Garabli ask the question of what their bodies were being taught beyond movement.

Through using a specific physicality and vocabulary, attention is drawn to the dubious relationship between dance training and soldier training while constantly questioning if body memory can be consciously forgotten. In response, they rewrite a language on their own terms through activating other ways of moving where their lines become intersected in a non-linear way.

Being born from their first collaboration, In relation to whom? مرتاحة؟ becomes an archeological process where Marah and Nur dig into their bodies as a living matter anchored in the present. It is a meeting of contradictions and vulnerabilities, humor and tension as an attempt of exploring the (im)possibilities of stimulating unlearning processes.

About the makers

In 2025, Marah Haj Hussein won the Flemish Actor's Guild Award for Best Acting Performance in the category of under 35. She is a dancer, actor and maker from occupied Palestine who currently lives in Antwerp. After her first work interested by the power dynamics between spoken languages in colonial contexts, she pursues her research focusing on colonial body languages and their imposing power.

Nur Garabli is a Palestinian choreographer and dancer from occupied Yaffa. Her work mixes Palestinian folklore and contemporary techniques, where tradition transforms into a living and evolving movement. It explores memory as a site of resistance and continuity. Nur co-curated Moving Together (2022 & 2023), a festival gathering women through dance and shared heritage.
