In this workshop, Jana Jacuka introduces a range of experimental and extended vocal techniques developed through her performance HA and her ongoing research for AAA (working title).

You will explore practices such as yodeling, grunting, fry screaming, high-pitched vocalisations and other textured forms of vocal expression. Through playful exercises, participants are invited to discover how these sounds resonate within their own bodies and voices.

No prior experience in voice work or movement is required. Only curiosity and a willingness to make noise. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow you to move freely.

About Jana Jacuka

Jana Jacuka (1995, NL/LV) is a Latvian choreographer and performer based in Amsterdam, recently graduated from the DAS Theatre Master's program. She is curious to create performances almost out of nothing and uses her voice and body as the departure point. Her practice is rooted in vocal choreography, allowing the voice to become an extension of her body, like another hand, leg or limb with which she can move in space.

Her recent work HA was recently presented at Frascati 2 and received the International Bursary Award 2025 at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival 2025. HA is also a source of inspiration for Dries's Verhoeven's new work 'The Fortress' at the Dutch Pavilion - Venice Biennale, where Jana contributed as advisor and performer.
