Lukubation Movie Night is an evening where cinema becomes ritual and liberation becomes a shared experience. Together, we dive into the world of Karmen Geï and explore the themes, emotions and questions the film evokes. Through film, movement and conversation, we create space to reflect on what liberation means, both individually and collectively.

Karmen Geï is a 2001 Senegalese musical drama directed by Joseph Gaï Ramaka. The film is a radical reinterpretation of the famous opera Carmen, relocated to Senegal and told through a distinctly African, feminist and queer lens.
