IDFA on stage: Between Nothingness and Infinity, I Began to Weep

Maxime Jean-Baptiste (BE)
Fri 11 Nov ’22 and Sat 12 Nov ’22
A multimedia performance about the murder of 18-year-old Lucas, the nephew of filmmaker Maxime Jean-Baptiste, reflecting on the tragedy through a combination of video footage, interviews, readings, music, dance and lighting effects.
Fri 11 Nov ’22
and
Sat 12 Nov ’22

The performance begins in the dark, with texts being read aloud. Then a mix of artful video footage, recordings of a memorial procession and interviews paints a picture of the boy. These include Lucas' loved ones, in particular Yannick, his best friend.

The film material comes from Jean-Baptiste's latest film project in the making and is combined with texts, music, singing, dancing and light art. Apart from the cousin, the murder and the emotions surrounding the tragedy, the performance also reflects on the filmmaker's role and purpose in making this film.
