A dance between the natural and the digital, between desire and movement.

Himalaya unfolds as a cinematic landscape where sculpture, metaphysical fiction, and post-clubbing converge. The work invites the audience to reflect on our perception of time and on the many ways time can unfold.

Himalaya is the first piece created by choreographer Elisa Zuppini after graduating from the SNDO (School for New Dance Development). Himalaya premiered at ICK Fest and was reworked in 2023 for the Feeling Curious? festival at Theatre Rotterdam. Over the years, the piece has evolved alongside Elisa’s artistic research, reflecting the foundations of her creative journey.

In Himalaya, Elisa explores her fascination with the body as something tangible yet driven by desire and with the world as a network where everything is interconnected. She investigates the tension between opposing forces: the natural and the artificial, the slow and the fast, the human and the mechanical. These worlds collide and slide past each other, like tectonic plates within perception, never fully merging.

The performance is accompanied by original music by Hesaitix (formerly M.E.S.H.) / James Whipple, who creates sonic worlds that move between the organic and the synthetic. Through the merging of sound and movement, an irregular sense of time emerges, inviting the audience to lose themselves in unexpected openings and shifts.

About Elisa Zuppini

Elisa Zuppini is an Italian-born choreographer and dancer based in Amsterdam, who graduated from the SNDO (School for New Dance Development) in 2018. Her practice explores the intersection of movement, systems thinking, and contemporary philosophy. She views choreography as a form of relational and affective architecture, a system where spatial and temporal elements interact dynamically to generate meaning. Previously, Elisa appeared at Frascati with Disambiguation.

Since 2019 she is part of Jacuzzi, a convergence of Amsterdam-based choreographers who act as a fluid organisation. Together they host opportunities for coming together, sharing and reflection, organising performance related events as well as weekly public group sessions. Jacuzzi wants to approach questions through bodies. Bodies whose ideas are voiced in several tones and articulations. With a desire to experience time differently but together.
