Two site-specific performances with the city as the stage.
From the streets of Nieuw-West to a vacant lot on Zeeburgereiland, two site-specific performances outside the walls of Frascati can be experienced in the coming period.
Have you always been curious about Amsterdam’s eastern docklands but never quite gotten around to visiting? Then Happy Days by Dood Paard is the perfect excuse. At the start of the performance, we meet Winnie, buried in sand up to her waist. A harsh bell rings, after which she begins her day with determination and optimism. In Samuel Beckett’s text, Winnie struggles to carry on in a world that is slowly falling apart.
For those who find it difficult to reach the recommended ten thousand steps a day, the other side of the city offers the active performance De Stoet (The Procession). During this theatrical walk through Nieuw-West, life is collectively commemorated and celebrated. What is our relationship - as individuals and as a society - with death? Theatre maker Adelheid Roosen longed for the tradition of the funeral procession and brought this idea to Katrien van Beurden. Together with the international theatre company Troupe Courage, she gives it a distinctive form: walking, singing, dancing, and at times embracing silence. De Stoet is currently sold out, but you can join the waiting list.
