Hajar Fargan

Maker

Hajar Fargan (1997) creates linguistic worlds that offers space for polyphony and encounters centered around themes such as displacement, identity, and 'the' truth. She seeks to understand the big through the small.

Biography

After getting rejected from drama schools in Amsterdam, Maastricht and Arnhem, Hajar decided to redirect to Cultural Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. Upon attaining her bachelor’s, however, she couldn’t help but try again and got accepted to the Amsterdam Academy of Theatre and Dance.

Hajar has gone on to perform key roles in several works by Abdel Daoudi, Rwina (2023), Branden (2024) and Hedda Gabler (2026), and landed a lead part in the movie Triq Salama (2024). As a maker, Hajar presented Dagboek van een beweging at Frascati’s 2025 Beginnings: a theatrical exploration of memory, identity, displacement and the desire to take root. Her previous solo, Meet the Method, concerned similar themes and was shown as part of the Under Construction program at Frascati.

Hajar aims to present work that shows truth, or even the self for that matter, are both fluid and unstable. This, in effect, might prompt the audience to question their own perceived stabilities and truths.
