Doris de Vries

Doris (1999, she/her) is a director, dramaturg, and theatre maker. She works in both Amsterdam and Dublin, where she graduated in 2021 from Trinity College Dublin with a degree in Drama Studies & English Literature. In 2025, she completed the Master’s programme in International Dramaturgy at the University of Amsterdam.
She is co-founder and director of the Irish theatre company Gift Horse Theatre, with which she has created four productions to date. She also directed Sophie Anna Veelenturf’s performance Swiping Right under the wing of the Belgian company BERLIN. As a dramaturg, she collaborates with makers such as David Roos, Anne Meffert, and Dominic O'Brien. She has worked as an assistant director for Internationaal Theater Amsterdam / Ivo van Hove, De Verleiders / Leopold Witte, and Suburbia / Olivier Diepenhorst. In 2026, she will be the Associate Artist of the Irish company Dead Centre.
In her work, Doris frequently returns to themes such as the space between actor and character, the value of repertoire theatre, and the role of sex(uality) in our society.
