Wojciech Grudziński’s CUTE & AWKWARD

Step into the queer dance world of CUTE & AWKWARD, the new dance performance by choreographer and performer Wojciech Grudziński (PL/NL). A solo that unfolds through two bodies at once. Wojciech guides you through the places where queer history and desire have taken shape. Its point of departure: Phantom, the first gay cruising bar in post-communist Poland.

On the dance floor, a zone of magnetic drift emerges. Bodies respond to invisible forces; movements slide, tilt, and slow down as if remembered by someone else. Uncertain, unbalanced, yet precise in their hesitation.

The work is steeped in echoes of longing, loss and pop-cultural melancholy. With Annie Lennox’s No More “I Love You’s” as a ghostly companion, CUTE & AWKWARD hovers between memory and fiction, between underground meeting places and nocturnal dreamscapes.

This new piece forms the twin to Wojciech’s earlier work THREESOME, in which he honored three legendary Polish dancers. Here, he explores similar themes from a new angle and through different bodies, once again rooted in queer history and the physical language that rises from it.
