Clothing makes us presentable, touchable, acceptable. What we wear reflects who we are, but what if your wardrobe isn’t a choice, but a donation?

Based on 17 encounters with visitors of De Kloof, the oldest walk-in center for unhoused people in Amsterdam, STRAATVACHT reveals how clothing shapes identity. Theater maker and designer Gerbrand Bos and dancer and performer Bess Kuil make visible what the city prefers not to see: how vulnerability dresses itself in neatness, how normality becomes camouflage, and how easily a person can slip through the seams of the system.

In STRAATVACHT, worn coats are transformed, from practical protection to stately homes. For this presentation visitors of De Kloof participate as storytellers, wearers, and co-creators. In that process sculptural forms are created where stories, bodies, and materials move together.

As part of the program line De (on)vertelde stad, Frascati collaborates with De Regenboog Groep. An organization that has been supporting people affected by debt, addiction, mental health issues, or homelessness for fifty years.

About Gerbrand Bos

Gerbrand Bos is a theatre maker and designer. In his work, he aims to highlight different perspectives simultaneously. His approach is characterised by a collage-like style, using fragmentary elements, glitter costumes and mythical characters. His signature is multi-layered, maximalist and colourful. Gerbrand works through co-creation and deliberately seeks out extremes. In addition to running his own practice, he is one of the founders of Collectief Raven. In December 2025, Gerbrand will be presenting Voor als je dood gaat at Frascati, in collaboration with Het NUT and former Frascati maker Hanna Timmers.

Bess Kuil is a dancer, performer and teacher, fascinated by expression and connection through movement. She graduated from the Amsterdam University of the Arts and uses dance as a tool for encounter, empathy and humanity. She completed the training programme at École des Sables in Senegal and has worked with Twee Turven Hoog, Jong Beginnen and Theater Maatwerk. The salsa and Brazilian zouk scenes are an important source of inspiration for her work. In addition to her artistic practice, Bess has experience as a nurse and support worker.
