Welcome to the trial.
The defendant: a woman with too many addresses and nowhere to go.
The setting: a city where housing has become the Holy Grail.

In Home Sweet Home, performer and writer Başak Layiç transforms Amsterdam’s housing crisis into a theatrical courtroom drama. Moving between personal storytelling, projected evidence, and the cold voice of the law, she takes the stage as both defendant: accused of overstaying her welcome, refusing to disappear, and dreaming above her income bracket in a city that can barely spare a broom closet.

This darkly comic solo performance reveals the quiet breakdowns, passive-aggressive notes, and stolen toilet paper behind every “temporary” living arrangement.

A multimedia courtroom where longing is the crime, and home is always just out of reach.
