Two physical narratives about how heritage binds and breaks.

This double bill presents two graduation performances. The evening begins in Frascati 4, where two bodies become inextricably entangled. Afterwards, in Frascati 2, we witness a woman locking herself in a bathroom, determined to lose herself. What does it mean to want to break free from where you come from? And what if you simply can’t exist without the other?

BuryaK - Ida Osten & Sofiia Butiaga

Beetroot. BuryaK. The unsung hero of Eastern European cuisine. Bleeds like a wound, stains like regret, tastes like home.

This duet navigates the uneasy terrain between autonomy and oppression, questioning what binds us and how we can move forward. As two women growing up in Ukraine and Austria we are still dependent on each other. No matter if we want it or not. A chain links their bodies, both metaphor and material. Is it a tether of trust or a kinky Cold war souvenir?

They are navigating through the reality of systemic forces. Drawing on the symbolic power of the beetroot, tempting and resilient. The performers explore how external systems and internalized beliefs shape the way we live, move, and relate. In the ritual of the renown dish ‘Borscht’ we see not just sustenance, but memory. We become each other’s mirror and refuge.

They feed and wash one another. They nourish each other.

Hierna zal ik een berg zijn… een simpele kutberg - Eva Gebbinck

A young woman has locked herself in the bathroom. She’s never coming out again. After this, she will be a mountain… a simple fucking mountain.

The young woman Hera has locked herself in the bathroom. Her mother bangs on the door: "HERA, open up!" Hera’s not going to open the door. She’s just fine in here. Hera wants to become something else. Something better. As long as she no longer resembles herself… maybe a horse… a manic hatter… or simply a mountain, a simple fucking mountain.

This performance is based on Eva’s personal experience with transgenerational trauma. Through her alter ego Hera, she tries to break free from her dominant mother, with cold hot dogs, a pink bath mat, butts, vomit, and folk music from a hamburger mug.
