Conversations is a layered encounter between physical and digital realities. With the help of extended reality, tangible and virtual worlds merge. Light and sound stretch the boundaries of space, distort perspectives, and create an environment in which spectators not only watch but actively participate.

A performer appears as a guide and a mirror. The virtual space fans open, bringing the audience into contact with themselves as well as with the other. In this hybrid setting, Conversations explores how personal experiences relate to collective experience and how encounter can lead to a deeper understanding of identity and presence.

The performance unfolds to the sounds of Belle qui tiens ma vie by Antoine Arbeau. This Renaissance music takes on a contemporary dimension within an immersive environment where layers of time, realities, and perspectives merge. This creates a poetic quest for curiosity, connection, and the search for oneself in a world that increasingly consists of multiple, overlapping layers.

Paul Boereboom and Leon Rogissart previously performed with Ascension at O. 2023 and with the O. Lab of Conversations at O. 2024.

About Paul Boereboom and Leon Rogissart

Paul Boereboom and Leon Rogissart create XR performances at the intersection of performing arts, music, and extended reality. Since graduating from the Amsterdam University of the Arts, they have explored technology as a dramaturgical tool for collective experiences. Their collaboration stems from a shared fascination with human presence in digital worlds, where body, sound, and image converge, and where the audience takes on an active role.

With their earlier work Ascension (awarded the Kaboom Award for Best VR and presented internationally), they explored XR as a contemporary ritual. In their new performance Conversations, they deepen this research by combining virtual and augmented reality, creating space for slowness and reflection on what it means to be both an individual and part of a collective in a digital age.
