The Hereditary - Ibrah Silas Jackson (NL/UG)

In an intense physical dialogue, two young black men explore deep-seated and toxic masculinity. Whether the father is present or absent, this deeply rooted masculinity is passed on from generation to generation. Just as these hip-hop dancers pass on their experiences and lessons from differences and similarities in this duet. Join them as they explore their fluid but sometimes aggressive movements from modern- and hip-hop dance.

EON THE MOD - Iain Ewok Robinson (ZA/FR)

Poetry for protest, dance for disorder’ is the slogan of South African hip-hop veteran and word artist Iain Ewok Robinson and French machine wizard and composer Charles Amblard.

In EON THE MOD, Iain shares his lyrical thoughts on truth, which the musical Amblard enhances with groovy sounds. With this spoken word performance, these rebels will make you think about the world we live in.

About the makers

The Hereditary was created by Ugandan Dutch dancer, director and choreographer Ibrah Jackon. He himself dances with Ghetto Funk Collective. His base is hip-hop, but this Rotterdam native has also developed in modern dance, funk and African dance styles. Last year, he already performed a preview of The Hereditary at Breakin‘ Convention in London.

Iain Ewok Robinson is a spoken word and hip hop activist, qualified educator,  published poet and playwriter. His career has crystalized at the intersection of the arts and social justice.

As a theatre maker and independent musician, he uses his words to stimulate debate and awaken critical consciousness. His critical lyrical form was forged in the freestyle battle rap and poetry slam scene. Iains repertoire includes a series of award-winning spoken word hip hop theatre shows and a body of recorded music of his hip hop and spoken word. It has been seen on stages from the Medellin International Poetry Festival in Colombia to the Uppsala Ordsprak Poetry Festival in Sweden.

He was a founding member of Durban’s original live hip hop crew illuminating shadows and one half of spoken word duo Blue Gene alongside French artist Charles Amblard.
