From Tue 16 untill Sat 27 May, LENZ and Frascati Producties present the performance Katie Cruel: a drone metal murder ballad. On Friday 26 May, the performance is followed by a one-off concert by drone legend Tos Nieuwenhuizen.

A drone metal murder ballad 

Katie Cruel is a musical production by LENZ (Erasmus Mackenna, Marit Hooijschuur and Roel Pronk) inspired by the rich tradition of Scottish and Irish murder ballads. Making use of both drone metal music and Scottish folk, in Katie Cruel LENZ create a rough, lonely, tender portrait of a young woman scarred by inter-generational trauma, searching for hope and prepared to go to any lengths to find it.

Tos Nieuwenhuizen

Tos Nieuwenhuizen — musician, technician, tube-amp-wizard and member of
bands such as Sunn O))) and Motorpsycho — gives a one-off one drone concert, invited to perform by LENZ in support of their new theatrical creation, Katie Cruel.

Utilising amplified guitar and bass synthesisers and supported by sound technician Luc van Weelden (active with among others OCCII, Big|Brave, Sumac and Car Seat Headrest), Tos will create an abstract landscape of layered sound in which high volume, droned notes and low frequencies play the lead roles; an underscore for a human species that is doomed to end imminently.
