Based on the unique music piece Crippled Symmetry (1984) by Morton Feldman, choreographer Keren Levi creates a subtle shifting interplay of movement, sound and space.
Three female dancers sketch rhythmic patterns through the performance space that is intersected by a sculptural installation of walls by visual artist Krijn de Koning. The performance is embedded in Tom Parkinson ’s sound work inspired by the original music. All elements have asymmetry and juxtaposition as energizing underlying principles. FOOTNOTES (for Crippled Symmetry) creates a fragile balance that tilts continuously. Slowing down with time it absorbs our attention, as the movement of music morphs into a music of movement, proposing imperfection and human fallibility.
FOOTNOTES is a close collaboration of choreographer Keren Levi with dancers Rozemarijn de Neve, Alicia Verdú Macián and Carcom Sheffer, as well as with artist Krijn de Koning, composer Tom Parkinson, fashion designer Conny Groenewegen and video maker Assi Weitz.
Saturday February 24 FOOTNOTES will be presented in a double-bill with a concert of Crippled Symmetry by Ives Ensemble.
